MOS 4313, Broadcast Journalist

Broadcast journalist electronically gathers news and information for use in military radio, television, and web-based programming. Duties include producing newscasts and stories, managing various aspects of programming for American Forces Network (AFN) detachments, and producing electronic press kits (EPK) for distribution to civilian media outlets. Only MOS 4341 Marines may hold the 4313 MOS.

Requirements.
(1) Commands are authorized to make a unit diary entry awarding MOS 4313 to Marines who have previously held the MOS as documented in their SRB.
(2) Recruit accessions: During the Basic Public Affairs Specialist- Writer (BPAS-W) Course, all Marines assigned MOS 4300 will be administered a voice audition at the Defense Information School. The most qualified candidates will be enrolled in a follow-on Basic Combat Correspondent (BCC) Course and awarded MOS 4313 upon graduation.
(3) All Others:
(a) Must meet the voice requirement on the basis of a recorded audition submitted to the Marine Corps Representative, Defense Information School, Ft. Meade, MD. Approved audition scripts may be obtained from the Public Affairs Chief, Division of Public Affairs, Headquarters Marine Corps.
(b) Complete BCC or demonstrate MOS qualifications through job performance in an MOJT program for a period of six months at a Defense Media Activity (DMA) or other Marine Corps Public Affairs broadcast billet. Certification of completion of MOJT can be made by the commanding officer based on evaluation of core training and readiness standards by competent authority from any U.S. Armed Service holding the grade of E6 or higher who also holds the NMOS of broadcast journalist. The certification must be provided as an endorsement to an Administrative Action Form submitted to Commandant of the Marine Corps (Code MMEA-83), 3280 Russell Road, Quantico, VA 22134-5103.
