The M-1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer is primarily responsible for supervising and performing maintenance on Abrams tanks.

M1 ABRAMS TANK SYSTEM MAINTAINER:  The M1/M1A1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer performs and supervises unit maintenance and select on-board direct support tasks, that is, major assembly replacement on M1 tanks to include the hull, turret, and fire control. They inspect, test, repair, and adjust power plants, suspension systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems, auxiliary power units, fire extinguisher/suppression systems, gas particulate systems, vehicular mounted armament, gun turret drive system, and the fire control systems.

       
Squad Leader: This soldier is responsible for all that the squad does or fails to do. They are a tactical leader and, as such, lead by example. The squad leader trains his/her squad on the individual and collective tasks required to sustain combat effectiveness. Manages the logistical and administrative needs of their squad. He requests and issues ammunition, water, rations, and special equipment. Maintains accountability of his soldiers and equipment. Completes casualty feeder reports and reviews the casualty reports completed by squad members. Submits requests for awards and decorations. Directs the maintenance of the squad's weapons and equipment. Inspects the condition of soldiers' weapons, clothing, and equipment. Ensures that material and supplies are distributed to the soldiers in the squad. Keeps the platoon sergeant/leader informed on squad supply status and squad requirements. Ensures supplies and equipment are internally cross-leveled within the quad.

Motor Sergeant:  The motor sergeant is responsible for the execution of the commander’s maintenance plan. They are charged with planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling field level maintenance assets. While the most influential maintenance manager in a unit is the commander, the motor sergeant is responsible for accomplishing all maintenance missions within the unit.

SECTION CHIEF:  The maintenance section chief is the NCOIC of a maintenance section responsible for providing MOS specific maintenance for the unit to which they are assigned. The section chief ensures that all maintenance missions assigned by the maintenance control section are accomplished quickly and correctly while simultaneously supporting both the squad leader and platoon sergeant with all Soldier administrative issues and those tasks of a tactical nature.

Qualifying scores.
(a) A minimum score of 100 in aptitude area MM in Armed Services Vocational aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests administered prior to 2 January 2002.
(b) A minimum score of 97 in aptitude area MM on ASVAB tests administered on and after 2 January 2002 and prior to 1 July 2004.
(c) A minimum score of (88 in aptitude area MM and 92 in aptitude area GT) or a minimum score of 99 in aptitude area MM on ASVAB tests administered on and after 1 July 2004.
SECURITY: None
Active Army or Reserve Component enlisted personnel upon entry into MOS 91A10. The Soldier must meet the enlistment standards as described in DA Pam 611-21.  Current equipment qualification record for all types of equipment maintained.

Course Scope:
Military Occupational Specialty training covering the subject areas of: publications; special tools; test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE); fundamentals and principles of engine, fuel, exhaust, cooling, electrical, track, suspension, steering control, and hydraulic systems; engine power trains; preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS); and maintenance of automotive and turret systems and components. This training will enable the graduate to inspect, service, lubricate, replace, adjust, test, purge, repair, and troubleshoot the systems and components of the M1A1 AIM-ED tank.

Special Information:
1. This course supports the conversion from 91A10 -OSUT to 611-91A10. TRADOC has approved training to go from OSUT to AIT in December 2005.
2. Currently the base-line tank for this course is the M1A1; the M1A1 will be replaced by the M1A1 AIM-ED. The M1A1 AIM-ED will be the base-line for AIT.
