A Man Portable Air Defense System Crewmember is part of the Army's field artillery team. Artillery are weapons that fire large ammunition or missiles to support infantry and tank units in combat. The man portable air defense system crewmember supervises or serves as member of portable Air Defense system missile unit and air defense activity engaged in operations and intelligence functions.

An Air and Missile Defense Crewmember is a member of the Army's air defense artillery team using the AVENGER system. The AVENGER system is a lightweight, highly mobile and transportable surface-to-air missile/gun weapon system. It provides mobile, short-range air defense protection against air and land attacks. The Air and Missile Defense Crewmember serves as a member of the highly mobile Avenger operations team.

A PATRIOT Launching Station Enhanced Operator is an important part of the Army's air defense artillery team. The PATRIOT missile system teams are used to launch advanced-technology ammunition capable of neutralizing multiple air targets. The PATRIOT missile system consists of an engagement control station, electronic power plant, communication relay group and up to eight launching stations. The PATRIOT Launching Station Operator works directly with the PATRIOT launching stations.

The ADA senior sergeant supervises, plans, coordinates, and directs the emplacement, operation, unit level maintenance and management of air defense artillery weapon systems in support of ADA units at all levels. Supervises and provides technical guidance to subordinate Soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties. Supervise training, evaluations and certification of AD crews in AD table training crew-drills. Monitors unit equipment readiness and prepares monthly readiness reports. Perform inspections on maintenance records and demand supported/diagnostics repair parts stockage procedures. Designs and implements the unit maintenance programs. Coordinate with maintenance and logistical support activities. Perform organizational planning, operations and training.
