MOS 6852, METOC Impact Analyst

Typical duties of METOC impacts analyst mirror those of MOS 6842 with additional skill sets. The METOC impacts analyst considers all meteorological and oceanographic factors, from the properties of the ocean sub-bottom, through the weather over the operations area, to the factors affecting satellite operations or communications in the upper atmosphere and space; and is responsible for the assessment and characterization of the battle space in terms of what and how environmental conditions will affect MAGTF operations. The METOC impacts analyst enables commanders and their staff to exploit environmental conditions by characterizing the battle space and the impacts it will have on mission planning and execution. These Marines are experienced and must first have a high level of competency in meteorology and oceanography to be effective.


Prerequisites.
(1) Must possess MOS 6842, METOC Analyst Forecaster.
(2) Must possess a top-secret security clearance and be eligible for access to sensitive compartmented information predicated upon a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI).
(3) Must have normal color vision.
(4) Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Requirements.
Complete the Journeyman or Master METOC Analyst designations and METOC Impact Assessment (MIA) qualification per reference (ca).

Duties.
(1) Forecast for environmental parameters that would negatively or positively impact ground maneuver, logistics and Aviation operations.
(2) Determine how the current and future state of the environment incorporates into the given mission analysis.
(3) Forecast and determine the influence of current/future environmental conditions on a given mission.
(4) Forecast platform, weapon and sensor vulnerabilities based on environmental parameters.
