MOS 7236, Tactical Air Defense Controller

Tactical air defense controllers direct aircraft in the interception of hostile aircraft, provide positive control of friendly aircraft, and participate in the coordination of surface-to-air weapons and interceptors in an antiair warfare environment.


Prerequisites.
(1) Must have a secret security clearance.
(2) Must have normal color vision.
(3) Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Requirements.
(1) MOS 7234 SO and TATC T&R events must be completed.
(2) Must complete the Tactical Air Defense Controller Course.
(3) Must complete the AWC academic packages.

Duties.
(1) MGySgt to Sgt
(a) Maintains operations logs and prepares operations maps and overlays.
(b) Conducts ground controlled intercepts.
(c) Provides flight following and navigational assistance.
(d) Provides positive control of friendly aircraft.
(e) Receives and evaluates data from electronics equipment in a clear and electronics countermeasures environment.

(2) MGySgt to SSgt
(a) Recognizes various types of interference encountered on electronic equipment and recommends corrective action.
(b) Selects positions for and supervises the emplacement of the operations section of the air control unit to which attached.
(c) Supervises the conduct of operations of the air control unit to which attached.
(d) Coordinates the operations of the air control unit to which attached with adjacent air control units.
(e) Operates, observes, and reports the readings of various electronics equipment in a clear and an electronic countermeasures environment.
(f) Operates AC/AAW systems which include the independent or coordinated operation and use of missile control, aircraft control, radar, and communications systems.
(g) Supervises and participates in preparation of system equipment for movement and combat.
(h) Supervises construction and camouflage of protected positions.
(i) Directs and supervises the training of air control personnel attached to the unit to which assigned.

(3) MGySgt to GySgt
(a) Supervises the surveillance section of the TAOC.
(b) Assists in the direction and coordination of electronics countermeasures and electronics counter countermeasures operations.
(c) Supervises en route air traffic controllers.
(d) Directs aircraft in the interception of hostile aircraft.

(4) MGySgt and MSgt
(a) Participates in the coordination of surface-to-air weapons and interceptors in an antiair warfare environment.
(b) Evaluates relative strength of enemy attack.
(c) Supervises the conduct of operations of the air control unit to which assigned.
(d) Complies with the procedures for the tactical employment of the TAOC.

(5) MGySgt
(a) Coordinates the operations of the TAOC with adjacent air control units.
(b) Directs and supervises the training of air control personnel attached to the unit to which assigned.
