CHEMICAL WARFARE MAN, GENERAL (979)

Chemical Warfare Basic

This classification is used to designate a chemical warfare enlisted man who has received the minimum essentials of basic military training, and who has been trained in the functioning of the 4.2-inch mortar and of the mortar squad, and in first and second echelon care and maintenance of chemical warfare equipment.

Assists chemical warfare technicians in the performance of their duties, such as decontamination and impregnation of clothing, handling of toxic gases, and operation of smoke generators.

Assists in the salvage and classification of chemical warfare equipment using such tools as are required, such as hack saws, hammers, Chisels, wrenches, wrecking bars, and acetylene burners.

(Enlisted men classified under this SSN will be constantly observed and tested to determine their qualifications for classification and assignment under an appropriate MOS.)
