As senior noncommissioned officer of a company, squadron, or unit of comparable siee, exercises general supervision over the activities of the enlisted personnel in the unit.
Supervises and coordinates such clerical work as preparation of correspondence and reports, schedules, and duty rosters. Maintains discipline, conducts drills and instructions, and handles the organization in the barracks and in the field, as directed by the commanding officer. Must be thoroughly familiar with administrative procedures and with the preparation of all required reports, records, forms, and correspondence.
In combat units should be familiar with the tactical employment of the organization. Note—The rank of First Sergeant is not a prerequisite to certification in this SSN, provided the individual is qualified, nor does the rank of First Sergeant automatically indicate that the Marine is qualified for such certification.
