797 - NAVAL GUNFIRE SHORE CHIEF

Assists Naval Gunfire Officer (SSN 1115) and supervises enlisted personnel in a shore fire control party.
Engages in scouting activities to determine possible enemy targets; assists in calling for, adjusting, and controlling ships' gunfire on selected targets; and supervises the radio and wire teams and the employment of the radar beacon. Must be thoroughly familiar with scouting and observing operations.
Must have general familiarity with various aspects of naval gunfire, such as range, rate of fire, trajectory curves, and maximum ordinates of different caliber naval guns, and with bursting patterns, radius, and effects of different types of ammunition. Must know proper procedures for voice-radio communication and must have general familiarity with installation and operation of radar beacons.
