823 - ORDNANCE SHOP TECHNICIAN   
[ORD SHOP TECH]

Performs all varieties of machining, welding, and metallizing duties in the maintenance, repair, and major overhaul of ordnance equipment in an ordnance shop.

Operates and maintains all types of machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, planers, shapers, and bench tools, in the shaping of metal parts to precise dimensions. Uses electric or acetylene welding apparatus to fabricate metal articles or to join broken parts. Sets up, adjusts, and operates metallizing equipment which sprays molten metal of various kinds on metal parts to provide a protective surface or to build up worn or gouged parts.

Must be able to work from blueprints and written specifications. Must know the working properties of such metals as aluminum, brass, cast and wrought iron, and various steels. Noteā€”See also SSN's 114 and 256.
