111 - LOCOMOTIVE FIREMAN
Fires and tends a boiler to generate steam in a railway locomotive. Fuels boiler by hand, shoveling coal, coke, or other fuel into fire box, or manipulates valves to control flow of fuel oil to fire box.
Inspects safety valves and pressure gauges. Performs minor cleaning and maintenance on locomotive. May assist LOCOMOTIVE Engineer (SSN 110) in driving locomotive. Must be thoroughly familiar with railroad semaphore signaling and safety precautions.
