The infantry senior sergeant serves as principal NCO in the operations section of combined arms or infantry brigades and higher level organizations. Provides tactical and technical guidance and professional support to subordinates and makes recommendations to superiors in the accomplishment of their duties. Serves as principal noncommissioned officer in an infantry battalion or higher to supervise the processing of operations and intelligence information in an infantry brigade or higher level unit. Plans, coordinates, and supervises activities pertaining to organization, training, and combat operations. Edits and prepares tactical plans and training material. Coordinates implementation of operations, training programs, and communications activities.
11Z5O - Skill Level Five
First Sergeant: The position of First Sergeant is the key and developmental position for an 11Z Mater Sergeant. In lieu of this every MSG should strive to serve a minimum of 24 months as a 1SG.
He is the senior NCO and normally the most experienced soldier in the company. He is the commander's primary tactical advisor and expert on individual and NCO skills. He assists the commander in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the unit mission. He operates where the commander directs or where his duties require him.
His specific duties include the following:
(a) Execute and supervise routine operations. This includes enforcing the tactical SOP; planning and coordinating training; coordinating and reporting personnel and administrative actions; and supervising supply, maintenance, communications, field hygiene, and medical evacuation operations.
(b) Supervise, inspect, or observe matters designated by the commander. (For example-observe and report on a portion of the company's sector or zone, inspect the mortar section, or inspect all range cards.)
(c) Assist and coordinate with the XO. Be prepared to assume his duties.
(d) Lead task-organized elements or subunits on designated missions.

Locates in the main CP where he can best influence operations.
Is responsible for the physical set up, arrangement, and breakdown of the main CP.
Is responsible for the movement of the main CP.
Supervises all TOC personnel to include section NCOICs.
Supervises maneuver control system (MCS) operators.
Prepares main CP for orders, drills, briefs, and rehearsals.
Executes CP security.
In coordination with (ICW) TF XO, executes main CP site reconnaissance and movement.
Coordinates the logistical needs of the main CP.
Provides technical and doctrinal advice to the S3 and commander.
