The Cavalry Scout is the commander's eyes and ears on the battlefield. When information about the enemy is needed, they call on the Scouts. They are responsible for reconnaissance and you will learn about various weapons to include explosives and mines. Cavalry Scouts engage the enemy with anti-armor weapons and scout vehicles in the field, track and report enemy movement and activities, and will direct the employment of various weapon systems onto the enemy.
19D1O - Skill Level One
Driver: As a vehicle operator and/or crewmember aboard an M3A2 Cavalry Fighting Vehicle (CFV), HMMWV (Highly Mobile Multi Wheeled Vehicle), or Stryker.
Gunner: Responsible for maintaining the 25MM, .50 Caliber, M240B, and M249 Machine Guns, MK-19 Grenade Launcher, and M16A4/ M4 individual weapon. Also, Anti-armor weapons such as the Javelin and TOW.
Scout: Trained on mounted maneuver, and dismounted land navigation patrols using the FBCB2 (Vehicular Tracking Device), (SINCGARS) digital radio communications equipment. and PSN-11 (Plugger). Selects, organizes, and supervises operation of observation/ listening posts. May serve as a gunner on a CFV, ITV, and HMMWV-TOW. Gathers information on the Size, Activity, Location, Unit, Time, and Equipment of the enemy (SALUTE Report). Collects and reports data for Route classification, fords, tunnels, and bridges. Uses all the prior data to request, adjust, and execute indirect fires. Can also serve as an Operations Assistant at Brigade or Squadron level.

Master Gunner: Company level Master Gunners are Noncommissioned Officers who are trained in advanced gunnery methodology, turret maintenance, and training management. These NCOs hold ASI of J3 and serve as the commander’s principal advisor on all issues dealing with gunnery on a M3A2 Cavalry Fighting Vehicle (CFV), HMMWV (Highly Mobile Multi Wheeled Vehicle), Stryker and related issues. He assist the commander and staff in planning , developing , conducting and monitoring the unit’s combat gunnery table program, including unit maintenance, to ensure proper readiness posture is maintained. Master Gunners are the special assistant to the commander and mentors combat crews on gunnery strengths and weaknesses.
