Cable Systems Installer-Maintainers are primarily responsible for installing, operating and performing maintenance on cable and wire communications systems, communication security devices and associated equipment.

Cable Antenna System Splicer:  Receives in depth and detailed training.Specializes in the installation and repair of various types of  cables (CAT-5, plastic-sheathed, pressurized, etc.) using different methods, for example underground cable splicing, aerial cable splicing.   Must be J2 qualified to receive this technical skill. Also  Installs, operates, repair and performs unit level maintenance on tactical and commercial coaxial cable, wire, fiber optic, voice over internet protocol (VOIP) telephone, cable rack, engineering installation package, and CAT-5 wire systems, to include Digital Group Multiplexers (DGM), Remote Multiplexing Combiners (RMC), repeaters, restorers, voltage protection devices, telephones, test stations, and related equipment.  Configures DGM and RMC for operations.  Installs, operates, performs preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) and unit level maintenance on COMSEC devices and power generators. Performs tests on cable communications systems to ensure circuit and system quality.  Tests circuits/groups to detect and locate faults on fiber optic, cable, and wire lines.  Operates manual and motorized cable construction equipment.  Climbs poles, as necessary, and assists in the construction of tactical and commercial cable and wire lines.  Operates and performs PMCS on telephone lines and equipment, and assigned vehicles.

Also installs, operates, repair and performs unit level maintenance on tactical and commercial coaxial cable, wire, fiber optic, voice over internet protocol (VOIP) telephone, cable rack, engineering installation package, and CAT-5 wire systems, to include Digital Group Multiplexers (DGM), Remote Multiplexing Combiners (RMC), repeaters, restorers, voltage protection devices, telephones, test stations, and related equipment.  Configures DGM and RMC for operations.  Installs, operates, performs preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) and unit level maintenance on COMSEC devices and power generators. Performs tests on cable communications systems to ensure circuit and system quality.  Tests circuits/groups to detect and locate faults on fiber optic, cable, and wire lines.  Operates manual and motorized cable construction equipment.  Climbs poles, as necessary, and assists in the construction of tactical and commercial cable and wire lines.  Operates and performs PMCS on telephone lines and equipment, and assigned vehicles.

25L3O - Skill Level Three

Cable Operations NCO:  Supervises, manages, and performs planning for all cable systems installation/maintenance for Implementation Detachment, USA Information System Engineering Command.

Cable System Section Chief:  Supervises, plans, and coordinates all cable system installation-maintaining with company or higher headquarters. Should be the subject matter expert responsible for two or more teams care, welfare, and equipment remaining mission capable.

Cable System Team Chief:  Supervises and coordinates all phases of planning, (pre-combat checks, testing planned cable routes, etc.), equipment installation, and recovery. Responsible for team site and all technical and tactical training of team.

Outside Plant Coordinator:  Responsible for the supervision and management of the team, which consists of three or more military and or civilian personnel; their welfare and equipment maintenance.

Qualifying scores.
(a) A minimum score of 90 in aptitude area EL and 90 in aptitude area SC in Armed Services Vocational aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests administered prior to 2 January 2002.
(b) A minimum score of 89 in aptitude area EL and 90 in aptitude area SC on ASVAB tests administered on and after 2 January 2002 and prior to 1 July 2004.
(c) A minimum score of 89 in aptitude area EL and 89 in aptitude area SC on ASVAB tests administered on and after 1 July 2004.
Be able to work at heights up to 40 feet for extended periods.

Course Scope:
Installs, operates, and performs unit level maintenance on cable and wire systems, to include Digital Group Multiplexers (DGM), Remote Multiplexing Combiners (RMC), repeaters, restorers, voltage protection devices, telephones, test stations, and related equipment. Configures DGM and RMC for operations. Installs, operates, and performs PMCS and unit level maintenance on COMSEC devices. Performs tests on cable communications systems to ensure circuit and system quality. Tests circuits/groups to detect and locate line faults. Operates manual and motorized cable construction equipment. Climbs poles, as necessary, and assists in the construction of tactical cable and wire lines. Operates and performs PMCS on telephone lines and equipment. Reinforces Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills as directed by CG, TRADOC.

Special Information:
1. Lesson objectives must be certified by the instructor before student can advance to next lesson/annex.
2. A security clearance of SECRET must be obtained prior to the award of 25L10 MOS.
3. Minor annex/lesson plan presentation adjustments that are not prerequisite driven may be presented out of POI sequence when approved by the Division Chief/Training Manager, and when reflected on the approved Master Training Schedule.
