25Q - Multichannel Transmission Systems Operator Maintainer

A Multichannel Transmission Systems Operator-Maintainer works directly on communication devices and equipment that communicate through more than one channel. They are responsible for installation, repair, operation and maintenance check of these devices, antennae and associated equipment.

FES Radio Operator-Maintainer:  Installs, operates, and perform maintenance on the Force Entry Switch (FES) radio equipment; Line of Sight, and Radio Access Unit. Also installs, operates, and perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS), on assigned power generators, antennas, and communication security (COMSEC) devices. Responsible for operating and performing PMCS on assigned vehicles.

Transmission SYS Operator-Maintainer:  Installs, operates and performs maintenance on multichannel line-of-site, tropospheric scatter communications systems, Secure Mobile Anti – Jam Reliable Tactical Terminal (SMART-T), satellite communication subsystems, communications security (COMSEC) devices, antennas, power generators and other military occupational speciality (MOS) related equipment. Analyzes BIT / BITE diagnostics to isolate faults to the Line Replaceable Unit (LRU). Operates and performs preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on assigned vehicles.

TROPO Operator-Maintainer:  Installs, operates, and perform maintenance on the AN/TRC-170 Digital Troposcatter Terminal Set, which provides secure digital trunking between major nodes of a TRI-TAC/AN-TRC communications network, or provides tactical multichannel digital troposcatter or line of sight (LOS) systems for transmission of analog and digital traffic.  Also installs, operates, and performs maintenance on communication security (COMSEC) devices, antennas, and power generators. Operates and perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on assigned vehicles.

Sr. Tropo Operator-Maintainer:  Responsible for the training, mentorship, and welfare of team in a light and heavy tropospheric scatter radio transmission system plus ensuring the teams equipment remainsmission capable. Installs, operates, and perform maintenance on the AN/TRC-170 Digital Troposcatter Terminal Set, which provides secure digital trunking between major nodes of a TRI-TAC/AN-TRC communications network, or provides tactical multichannel digital troposcatter or line of sight (LOS) systems for transmission of analog and digital traffic.  Also installs, operates, and performs maintenance on communication security (COMSEC) devices, antennas, and power generators. 25Q3O - Skill Level Three

Transmission Sys Operations NCO:  Soldier should be the subject matter expert with a broad knowledge of all Transmission Systems and Node functions. Responsible for Staff sections performing Multi-channel/ TROPO Transmission Systems operations, maintenance, and planning.  System Maintenance Section of a Hawk Battalion.

TROPO Team Chief:  Supervises training and provides guidance, and leadership to all Sergeants or soldiers in an E-5 position. Also performs planning of Troposcatter Transmission System in an Inner Theatre Signal Battalion (ITSB). Responsible for the mentorship and welfare of the team; and their equipment remaining mission capable, and being properly installed plus operated.

Qualifying scores.
(a) A minimum score of 100 in aptitude area EL and 100 in aptitude area SC in Armed Services Vocational aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests administered prior to 2 January 2002.
(b) A minimum score of 98 in aptitude area EL and 98 in aptitude area SC on ASVAB tests administered on and after 2 January 2002.
Course Prerequisites: Active Army or Reserve Component enlisted personnel.
Phase Prerequisites: Active Army or Reserve Component enlisted personnel.
Course is unclassified. MOS requires a SECRET Clearance.
Ability to read, comprehend and clearly enunciate English.
Ability to work for extended periods in a confined area.

Course Scope:
Acquire skills and knowledge to install, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain Multichannel Transmission LOS V1 and V3 MSE Systems, and AN/TRC-173, AN/TRC-174, AN/TRC-175 and AN/TRC-138 DGM Systems; as well as installation, operation, and maintenance of the RAU.

Phase Scope: Common Core training with 102 hours covering general Multichannel Transmission Systems Operator-Maintainer knowledge and 8 hours of Critical Digital Tasks Awareness (FBCB2) training.

Special Information:
202-25Q10 (CT) Common Core will be contractor trained and is a prerequisite to the 202-ASI7D (25Q) and 202-ASI7E (25Q) courses.
