31D - Criminal Investigations (CID) Special Agent

The Army has their own law enforcement and security specialists to handle felony-level crimes committed on Army property or that involve Army personnel. Criminal Investigations Special Agents are primarily responsible for supervising or conducting investigations of incidents and offenses or allegations of criminality that affect Army or Defense personnel, property, facilities or activities.

Evidence Custodian:   As a senior CID Special Agent and as an additional duty, the Evidence Custodian preserves, safeguards, accounts for, and disposes of all evidence received in the evidence room.  Maintains an automated suspense system, is responsible for all levels of control of evidence seized from crime scene processing, through laboratory examination, and to criminal court proceedings until final disposition.  Ensures monthly commander inspections, quarterly and other 100% accountability inventories are conducted, and annual inspections from the battalion command or ACOM/ASCC/DRU Inspector General.

Training NCO:   This NCO is responsible for the training program of a Company, Battalion, or Group consisting of the staff, faculty, and support personnel; prepares training schedules and reports; reviews training records; prepares the physical training schedules; maintains training records; schedules and coordinates the APFT; monitors the weight control packets; computes profiles; recommends courses; request allocations for the schools and schedules personnel for attendance; maintains the training data base.

Detachment Sergeant:   The senior enlisted Special Agent of a CID office and performs duties commensurate to that of a company First Sergeant.  Advises the Commander/Special Agent-in-Charge on all enlisted matters, investigative support requirements and evidence management, of a field investigative element supporting an Army Corps or major installation.  

General Crimes Team Chief:   Performs duties commensurate to that of a platoon sergeant.  Develops, plans, implements, and supervises multiple Special Agents during the conduct of general crime operations against people and property.

Economic Crimes Team Chief:   Performs duties commensurate to that of a platoon sergeant.  Develops, plans, implements, and supervises multiple Special Agents during the conduct of economic crime investigations involving fraud, larceny, product substitution, graft and corruption.

Drug Suppression Team Chief:   Performs duties commensurate to that of a platoon sergeant.  Develops, plans, implements, and supervises a Drug Suppression Team, concerning the interdiction of illicit drugs destined for Soldiers, family members and military civilians.  

Staff Special Agent:   Senior NCO on a brigade or ACOM/ASCC/DRU headquarters staff responsible for overall office operations, professional development schools, MOS specific schools, annual training budgets, conducting staff assistance visits, and group inspections.

Operations NCO:   This NCO performs duties commensurate a Battalion SGM.  Advises the Battalion Commander on multiple CID company-level field investigative elements, supporting multiple Army major installations.  Provides guidance and staff supervision, directs plans, procedures and operational orders as a Battalion, Group, or MACOM level Operations Sergeant in support of installation and wartime missions; Logistics Security, Criminal Intelligence, Protective Service Operations, Force Protection Operations, and Criminal Investigations such as Anti-Terrorism and War Crimes.

Text Prerequisites
Enlisted personnel, in grades from E-4 through E-6, who meets prerequisites IAW DA Pam 611-21 and AR 195-3. Qualifying scores. A minimum score of 110 in aptitude area ST in Armed Services Vocational aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests administered prior to 2 January 2002. A minimum score of 107 in aptitude area ST on ASVAB tests administered on and after 2 January 2002.

Course Scope:
Trains enlisted, and U.S. Civilian personnel to the level of apprentice CID special agents in the subjects of criminal law, crime scene processing, testimonial evidence, investigations of crimes against persons and property, physical evidence, drug investigation, fraud and waste, investigation reports, special investigative techniques, and provisions of CIDR 195-1.

This course is releasable to military students from foreign countries on a case-by-case basis.
