91E - Machinist

The Machinist is primarily responsible for supervising and performing the fabrication, repair and modification of metallic and nonmetallic parts. They operate lathes, drill presses, grinders and other machine shop equipment.

Machinist:  The machinist supervises and performs the fabrication, repair, and modifications of metallic and nonmetallic parts and supervises metalworking shop activities.

Squad Leader: This soldier is responsible for all that the squad does or fails to do. They are a tactical leader and, as such, lead by example. The squad leader trains his/her squad on the individual and collective tasks required to sustain combat effectiveness. Manages the logistical and administrative needs of their squad. He requests and issues ammunition, water, rations, and special equipment. Maintains accountability of his soldiers and equipment. Completes casualty feeder reports and reviews the casualty reports completed by squad members. Submits requests for awards and decorations. Directs the maintenance of the squad's weapons and equipment. Inspects the condition of soldiers' weapons, clothing, and equipment. Insures that material and supplies are distributed to the soldiers in the squad. Keeps the platoon sergeant/leader informed on squad supply status and squad requirements. Ensures supplies and equipment are internally cross-leveled within the squad.

Metal Shop Supervisor:  The Machinist inspects, modifies, performs and supervises maintenance on machinable materials of Army watercraft, land combat systems and general-purpose equipment. The machinist’s primary duties center on fabricating components made of ferrous and nonferrous metals, plastics, and other machinable materials using machine shop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drills and presses. Duties cover a full spectrum of metal preparations, joining processes, layout and fabrication to within tolerances of thousandths of an inch (.001”).
