The Artillery Mechanic is primarily responsible for supervising and performing maintenance and recovery operations of all self-propelled field artillery cannon weapon systems, including automotive, turret, fire control and chemical protection subsystems.

ARTILLERY MECHANIC:  The Artillery Mechanic performs and supervises field and sustainment level maintenance and recovery of all self-propelled field artillery cannon weapon systems.

Squad Leader: This soldier is responsible for all that the squad does or fails to do. They are a tactical leader and, as such, lead by example. The squad leader trains his/her squad on the individual and collective tasks required to sustain combat effectiveness. Manages the logistical and administrative needs of their squad. He requests and issues ammunition, water, rations, and special equipment. Maintains accountability of his soldiers and equipment. Completes casualty feeder reports and reviews the casualty reports completed by squad members. Submits requests for awards and decorations. Directs the maintenance of the squad's weapons and equipment. Inspects the condition of soldiers' weapons, clothing, and equipment. Insures that material and supplies are distributed to the soldiers in the squad. Keeps the platoon sergeant/leader informed on squad supply status and squad requirements. Ensures supplies and equipment are internally cross-leveled within the squad.

Qualifying scores.
(a) A minimum score of 105 in aptitude area MM in Armed Services Vocational aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests administered prior to 2 January 2002.
(b) A minimum score of 102 in aptitude area MM on ASVAB tests administered on and after 2 January 2002.
Active Army and Reserve Component enlisted personnel upon initial entry into MOS 91P10. Must have a civilian drivers license or have successfully completed the Motor Vehicle Driver Selection Batteries I and II and Physical Evaluation Measures.  Current equipment qualification record for all types of equipment maintained.

Course Scope:
Initial Entry Training (IET), providing Basic Knowledge and Skills training in Field Level (Automotive/Armament) Maintenance training emphasizing maintenance publications, tools, TMDE, maintenance safety and discipline, troubleshooting, replacement, repair, and service of automotive and armament related systems of M109-series Howitzers, and M992 series Ammunition Carrier.
