The mechanical maintenance supervisor supervises, plans, coordinates, and directs the unit, direct support and general support (DS/GS) maintenance of all mechanical equipment. They provide senior enlisted leadership and supervision to lower ranking Soldiers in the 91 (Maintenance) Field.

FIRST SERGEANT: The first sergeant is responsible for providing sound advice to the commander on a wide range of topics including the health, esprit de corps, discipline, mentoring, well being, career progression, recognition, and professional development of all assigned enlisted members. Furthermore, working with his or her fellow Senior NCOs and supervisors, the first sergeant ensures discipline is equitably maintained, and the goals of health, esprit de corps, discipline, mentoring, and welfare of the enlisted force are met. First sergeants hold formations, instruct platoon sergeants and assist the commander in daily unit operations. Though first sergeants supervise routine administrative duties their principle duty is training soldiers. The CSM, first sergeant and other key NCOs must understand the organizations collective mission essential tasks during METL-based training. Through NCO development programs, performance counseling and other guidance, first sergeants are the Armys most important mentors in developing subordinate NCOs. The first sergeant is on call 24 hours a day and should expect long and irregular duty hours. Generally, they are contacted by many base agencies (e.g., security forces, Red Cross, hospital, command post, etc.) and must respond (with the supervisor when feasible) at any hour. Based on the cumulative and important responsibilities of the first sergeant, and the impact of this position on units and personnel, this position is only the most dedicated professional senior NCOs.
SENIOR MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR: The mechanical maintenance supervisor supervises, plans, coordinates, and directs the field and sustainment level maintenance of all mechanical equipment. Serves as the principal maintenance NCO at the brigade support battalion or higher level organization. Supervising personnel performing the duties of maintenance supervisor (63X4O), Armament supervisor (45K4O).
Operations NCO: The duties of the S3 Operations NCO include the following; Conducts continuous intelligence preparation of the battlefield (IPB). Advises commander on base security. Coordinates with explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) detachments/teams. Determines which group facilities are vulnerable to damage. Supervises force protection training: individual and collective tasks for perimeter defense and tactical movement.
SUPPORT OPERATIONS NCO: The support operations maintenance NCO monitors shop production and job status reports in the field maintenance company and FSCs. It also monitors and reviews the combat spares and coordinates critical parts status with the sustainment brigade. Instructions include evacuation, cannibalization, and controlled exchange policies. With the brigade S4, it reviews backlogs on critical weapon systems. For any additional support requirements, the BSB support operations coordinates through the UEx sustainment brigade materiel management branch. The duties of the maintenance officer include the following, Conducts continuous logistics preparation of the battlefield. Tracks and investigates Class IX high priority requisitions. Assists with planning and coordinating contingency support. Directs redistribution of maintenance workloads by BSB. Coordinates maintenance back-up support with the sustainment brigade. Monitors units maintenance posture using SAMS-2. Coordinates maintenance priorities with the brigade S4. Provides recommendations to the HBCT S4 to redistribute FSC maintenance assets within the HBCT. Establishes maintenance priorities for workload management through coordination with the supported unit.
